Ever wondered what CAD stood for? (It's Computer Aided Design!)

CAD programs, like RHINO3D, can be used to test design ideas or models to see how they'll look in 3D.  CAD programs also allow you to create objects that you can either print yourself or send to manufacturers to produce!

This class will start by describing the process of using CAD software, from concept to printing, as well as how it has been used in many of Vivian Beer's own past projects.

Together with Vivian, students will be led through step-by-step instructions as we create a printable flat file version of WOO's eye-bolt logo!  This process will familiarize our students with some basic commands in RHINO, work through a little troubleshooting, and review how to prepare and check your file before you send it out to be cut!

Materials needed: If you want to work along with Vivian, you will need a fully functioning FREE demo version of RHINO 3D software, which can be downloaded for PC or Mac here: https://www.rhino3d.com/download

Please note:

  • The demo version is for 90 days.
  • We will send you a reminder 7 days before the class (Friday July 23rd) in case you haven’t downloaded it yet!
  • Make sure your computer has enough memory to run the program.

All skill levels welcome. No prerequisites. All you need is a computer, a good internet connection, and the free demo version of RHINO for your operating system!

WOO is a non-profit safe space for training underrepresented genders in our field. As such, enrollment is limited to non-binary, trans, and woman-identifying folks over the age of 18.

All class times are in U.S. Eastern Time.
