Commission work is seen by most as the ideal practice for a woodworker— using all of one's faculties to solve the idiosyncratic problems of each unique piece. The job, while undoubtedly fulfilling, can produce an equal amount of stress and heartache. A successful project hinges on factors such a proper time management, client engagement, the frightful bidding process, dreaded delivery, creativity and technical execution.

For the last five years Sarah Watlington has designed, bid and built custom furniture as the project manager of Offerman Woodshop. In this seminar she will share her insights on the process, along with some humble mistakes. Bidding sheets and organizational tools will be available to attendees after the workshop. The class will end with an open discussion for folks to ask questions and share their own insights, successes and failures.

All skill levels welcome.  No prerequisites. All you need is a computer and a good internet connection!

WOO is a non-profit safe space for training underrepresented genders in our field.  As such, the majority of our classes are limited to non-binary, trans, and woman-identifying people.  **However, this class is open to people of all genders over the age of 18.**

Sarah Watlington is a woodworker, artist and educator based in Los Angeles, CA. Sarah is a graduate of the Krenov School of Fine Woodworking, in Ft Bragg, CA, builds custom furniture as the project manager at Offerman Woodshop (LA), and teaches woodworking courses locally and across the country.
