WOO Internships

A Workshop of Our Own is looking for interns! Please familiarize yourself with our mission and the specifics of the positions listed below and, if you’re interested, contact us as directed. If we think you might be a good fit, we will contact you to set up a phone/in-person interview. 


PR INTERN (1 needed, can start ASAP) 

Duties

  • Post to social media regularly/as asked (IG, Facebook, and Twitter can co-post)
  • Check social media accounts regularly 
    • Send general responses as necessary 
    • Communicate with WOO admin when more specific responses are needed 
  • Monitor woo@aworkshopofourown.com email account 
    • Answer general emails and customer service emails 
    • Forward emails to/communicate with WOO admin when more specific responses are needed 
  • Approximately 5-10 hours a week 

Compensation (for duration of internship) 

  • Interns will receive a stipend; details will be provided in interview
  • Free basic membership 
  • Access to open shop hours 
  • Must take appropriate safety classes before using shop 

Requirements

  • Must be a womyn/grrl age 18+ 
  • Must live in the Baltimore area 
  • Must have own device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) with regular access to data or WiFi 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Comfortable using various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) 
  • Experience with marketing, public relations, social media promotion, etc. (This does not have to be professional experience -- we would be happy to give this opportunity to a student studying marketing or a similar discipline.) 
  • Woodworking experience is NOT required, but we are looking for someone who loves the same things we do -- making, Baltimore, social justice, human rights, and all that good stuff.

WOODWORKING INTERNS (2+ needed, will start September 2017)

Duties

  • Help us finish building out the space -- storage, workbenches, etc. 
  • More details to come!

Compensation (for duration of internship) 

  • Interns will receive a stipend; details will be provided in interview
  • Free basic membership 
  • Access to open shop hours
  • Training in woodworking and shop maintenance
  • Possible additional work opportunities with WOO’s contract/commission jobs; usually $15/hour 
  • Will receive appropriate safety classes before beginning work

Requirements

  • Must be a womyn/grrl age 18+ 
  • Must live in the Baltimore area and have access to personal or public transportation 
  • Availability for several hours at least once a week (specific days/hours TBD, may be flexible) 
  • Some woodworking experience and a willingness to learn (If you’ve attended our classes in the past, you qualify!) 
  • We are looking for someone who loves the same things we do -- making, Baltimore, social justice, human rights, and all that good stuff.
