WOO Internships

A Workshop of Our Own is looking for interns! Please familiarize yourself with our mission and the specifics of the positions listed below and, if you’re interested, contact us as directed. If we think you might be a good fit, we will contact you to set up a phone/in-person interview. 

Our internship cycle lasts 3 months; is a great way to get involved in the shop; and can be an avenue for additional opportunity. One of our first interns, Shalon Edwards, is now our main instructor for our intro cutting board class.


PR INTERN 

Duties

  • Post to social media regularly/as asked (IG, Facebook, and Twitter can co-post)
  • Check social media accounts regularly 
    • Send general responses as necessary 
    • Communicate with WOO admin when more specific responses are needed 
  • Write weekly newsletter
    • Answer general newsletter responses and customer service emails 
    • Forward emails to/communicate with WOO admin when more specific responses are needed 
  • Approximately 5-10 hours a week 

Compensation (for duration of internship) 

  • Interns will receive a stipend; details will be provided in interview
  • Free basic membership 
  • Access to open shop hours 
  • Must take appropriate safety classes before using shop 

Requirements

  • Must live in the Baltimore area 
  • Must have own device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) with regular access to data or WiFi 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Comfortable using various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) 
  • Woodworking experience is NOT required, but we are looking for someone who loves the same things we do -- making, Baltimore, social justice, human rights, and all that good stuff.  And we'd love to help you gain some woodworking experience if you're interested.

WOODWORKING INTERN

Duties

  • Shop maintenance: building shop furniture and fixing machines 
  • Milling lumber and other material prep for classes
  • General woodworking

Compensation (for duration of internship) 

  • Interns will receive a stipend; details will be provided in interview
  • Free basic membership 
  • Access to open shop hours
  • Training in woodworking and shop maintenance
  • Will receive appropriate safety classes before beginning work

Requirements

  • Must live in the Baltimore area and have access to personal or public transportation 
  • Availability to work one 8 hour day once a week, with an hour break for lunch, or two days at 4 hours each. 
  • Some woodworking experience and a willingness to learn (If you’ve attended our classes in the past, you qualify!) 
  • We are looking for someone who loves the same things we do -- making, Baltimore, social justice, human rights, and all that good stuff.
